Biography

A Career Defined by Precision, Volume, and Honest Recommendations

Dr. Parikh is one of those rare physicians who has mastered both the surgical and non-surgical management of thyroid disease — and who lets the evidence, not the procedure, drive his recommendations.

Dr. Shatul L. Parikh, M.D., FACS is a native Atlantan who completed his undergraduate education at Emory University, his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia, and his residency training in Otolaryngology at Emory University. He has spent his career building one of the largest thyroid and parathyroid programs in the country, performing an exceptionally high volume of complex thyroid and parathyroid surgeries annually.

More than six years ago, Dr. Parikh recognized that radiofrequency ablation represented a genuine clinical advance for patients with benign thyroid nodules — and pursued training at the highest level. He trained with a world-renowned pioneer of thyroid RFA to ensure that his technique reflected the best available evidence and outcomes data. He has since performed over 500 thyroid RFA procedures — among the highest volumes of any practitioner in the United States — with zero major complications.

His philosophy is uncomplicated: every patient deserves an honest evaluation and the right treatment — whether that is RFA, surgery, or simply watchful waiting. Because he offers all three, he has no stake in any particular recommendation.

What Drives Dr. Parikh's Approach to Patient Care

The Right Treatment for Each Patient

Dr. Parikh's central conviction is that every patient deserves a recommendation based solely on what is right for them — not on what the physician happens to offer, not on what reimburses better, and not on what's simpler to schedule.

This is why he has committed to mastering both the surgical and non-surgical management of thyroid disease. Many patients arrive at his office having been told that surgery is their only option — sometimes by physicians who simply don't offer RFA. Equally, some patients arrive hoping to avoid surgery when surgery is genuinely the right answer. Dr. Parikh's responsibility, in both cases, is the same: tell the patient the truth and help them get the best outcome.

Volume as a Commitment

Dr. Parikh performs one of the highest volumes of thyroid and parathyroid procedures in the country — both surgical and non-surgical. Volume isn't something he pursues for its own sake; it reflects the trust patients and referring physicians place in him, and it directly translates to better outcomes and refined technique.

With over 500 thyroid RFA procedures performed — with zero major complications — and one of the country's highest surgical volumes, his patients benefit from experience that simply cannot be replicated by a practitioner who is new to either modality.

Teaching What He Practices

As an instructor for the American Board of Otolaryngology and a lecturer at the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. Parikh teaches the same techniques he applies to his own patients. When you come to him, you're seeing a physician who is trusted to train others — and who is held to that standard in his own practice.
